Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27, he enrolled at the National Theatre School of Denmark at which he was graduated in the year 1995. He also appeared on The Killing, a drama series that was broadcast worldwide. Then, he appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill the two internationally well-known Danish dramas. He also played the lead role in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as a blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He was Russia's president on the American television series House of Cards. In 2018, he took home an International Emmy Award for his performance as the president in Russia in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was shown in the UK in the year 2019. He has said that he and his brother first learned English through listening to Monty Python records and learning the comedy sketches.
